eND OF yEAR tALK bACK
This year we've had trouble with starting really strong and then putting things off for far too long and pulling it out of our asses. This whole discussion we are having is for future improvement for us as a group, not individuals. We leave the person who is in charge out on their own. Instead of giving a whole event to one person, we should delegate different tasks to different people with one person organizing the bits and pieces. We need people on board at the very beginning of plans and not just when we are trying to get things done at last minute. We have a problem with lack of interest and scheduling. We need to solidify our perception as an honors organization. We need to take everything more seriously. We can't just look at our events as all fun and games. We need to let our inductees know from the beginning why this is a resume builder. We do have fun, but our purpose is volunteer work and making a good face for our department. In the beginning of the year with the department bigs, we need to make sure the freshmen know exactly what APO is. We should probably have some type of shirt representing who we are and showing how serious we are. We should use our letters for more events than just relay. It will help the community know more about us and we can do more events with other organizations like we did for murder mystery. Maybe we can do more events during common time on scholar's and digs and have representation during orientation. We need to take more pride in our organization and what we do. We can't just talk about this. We need to do. We need higher standards. We usually don't have all the information which makes it difficult for people to make a commitment to volunteering. We need to take the time to discuss things and not be afraid to take the time. Maybe next year for department bigs we can write letters to the littles before we even reveal. It would get people excited. We can get a blue t-shirt, yellow writing "It doesn't get any more Greek than this" and displaying our letters and our motto as well as Theatre and Dance Honor Society. Leah, Shareef, Zeke will head this up. We have people that will be here during the summer who can possibly represent us during the summer. We know Cody Knight who is an OL. James will get the information for this. As soon as we get information, please send it out to everyone else so we are all on the same page. If you want to do the orientation thing but need a place to stay, let someone know so we can house you. We need to set up a plan for event planning so it doesn't fizzle. We could have a Stage Manager who takes care of planning and making sure events get done. Liaisons can run the master calendar. We need to make it a priority to unite the two sides of the department. We should have two Theatre and Dance Coordinators (not a dance liaison and one theatre liaison). We will come back to this. We need to improve the flow of meetings. We have a free for all. We have a lot of ideas but it is not solid. Make solid plans before bringing things up. We bounce around with new things and get caught up. We spit things out. We cut each other off. It's sloppy and lacks respect. Calendar wise, we need to probably do event calendars for specific things, like a five week plan. We need to write things down. One thing we do well is that we are flexible with events. But they were very last minute in their planning. We got things done, not as well as they could have been done, but they got done. Doing things at the last minute does not show our talents as well as we can which is very sad and unfortunate. Other organizations support each other which makes it easier. We need to talk to other people in other groups to help our connections with Greek Life. Other organizations don't take us seriously because we don't take us seriously.
Something that will help with the smoothness of the meetings is that the president or whoever is in charge can send out an agenda of the upcoming meetings so we can prepare better. The secretary can then take the agenda and modify it to make into the minutes.
Jasmine is going to talk to Daniel about possibly putting together a scholarship. This is a topic for later.
